At Millboard, our mission is to help people Live. Life. Outside.
We design, innovate and manufacturer products renowned for their aesthetics and durability. We also provide expert technical insight and thoughtful customer service; which we are pleased to be taking to a new, inclusive, level. We’re proud to announce that www.millboard.com is now WCAG 2.2 Level AA compliant — and we’re launching it to coincide with Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), a day that champions digital access for all — reaffirming our commitment to an inclusive online experience for everyone.

Held annually, GAAD is a worldwide initiative that shines a light on digital access and inclusion for the more than one billion people worldwide living with disabilities. We see this as the perfect opportunity to spotlight not only the technical progress we’ve made, but also the values that guide us.

What is WCAG?
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are the global gold standard for digital accessibility. Developed by the W3C, they outline how websites should be designed and built to ensure people with disabilities — including those with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive challenges — can access and interact with online content effectively.
The latest version, WCAG 2.2, introduces enhanced requirements, such as:
More robust keyboard navigation
- Clearer focus indicators for interactive elements
- Larger tap targets for touch-based devices
- Better support for users with cognitive and learning difficulties
Level AA compliance — the tier we’ve reached — strikes the right balance between strict accessibility and practical implementation for public websites.

Why This Matters: The EU Accessibility Act
Later this year, the European Accessibility Act (EAA) will come into force, requiring businesses that sell or operate across the EU and UK to make digital services accessible to all. This landmark legislation represents a shift towards a more equitable online environment, ensuring that people with disabilities are not excluded from e-commerce, communication tools, and other digital services.
Achieving WCAG 2.2 Level AA compliance now means Millboard is not only ahead of the curve — we’re prepared to meet these upcoming legal requirements with confidence, integrity, and care.
Behind the Scenes: A Thoughtful Transformation
Making a complex website fully accessible is about more than technical updates — it's about thoughtful design, inclusive thinking, and meaningful change. This latest evolution of our site reflects that ongoing commitment - our digital and development teams undertook a site-wide transformation to:
- Audit every page against accessibility benchmarks
- Increase contrast ratios and improve typography for better readability
- Enable screen reader compatibility and semantic HTML
- Redesign UI components for keyboard and touch navigation
- Add appropriate ARIA labels for better structure and understanding
Ensure consistency across desktop, tablet, and mobile experiences
The result is a site that’s more intuitive, inclusive, and usable — for everyone.

Launching on Global Accessibility Awareness Day
We chose to launch our newly accessible website on Global Accessibility Awareness Day as a way to acknowledge the importance of inclusive design and reflect the values behind GAAD. The day serves as a reminder that digital access should be universal — an essential consideration, not an afterthought. It encourages all of us — from designers to developers, marketers to business leaders — to approach digital spaces with empathy and care.
