The Project
When the current owners purchased Waterfalls in February 2020, they saw more than just a house. They saw potential: a characterful property that, with thoughtful renovation, could become the perfect family home.

A Vision for a Forever Home
Over the past few years, the owners of this stunning property have been steadily reimagining every element to suit their lifestyle: a welcoming retreat where grandchildren can explore safely, and friends can gather for long summer evenings together.
“Our vision was always to create a home that was beautiful, but also practical,” the owners explain. “We wanted spaces that invite you to spend time outside, and materials that look stunning without the hassle of constant upkeep.”

Beauty Without Compromise
One of the most important decisions in their renovation journey was the choice of exterior materials. The property’s original cladding, a natural oak product, had character but demanded significant maintenance. Every two or three years, it needed sanding and refinishing to keep it presentable. It was time-consuming, messy, and far from the low-maintenance lifestyle the owners envisioned.
“From the start, we knew we wanted something different this time,” they say. “Everything we built had to be designed for low maintenance and longevity. Millboard decking and cladding fitted the brief perfectly.”
It wasn’t just the promise of low maintenance that appealed. The exceptional aesthetics of Millboard decking and cladding, replicating the rich texture and depth of real timber without the drawbacks, offered the perfect solution. Even up close, the resemblance to natural wood is striking. And unlike traditional timber, Millboard decking and cladding will retain its beauty year after year, without fading, splitting or requiring treatment.
“Only when you look very closely can you tell it’s not real wood,” the owners remark. “And knowing it will still look pristine in many years’ time gives us peace of mind.”

A Seamless Blend of Tradition and Innovation
The renovation thoughtfully combines classic Somerset character with contemporary design choices. The property’s stonework a warm, creamy Ham stone sourced just outside Yeovil, provides a beautifully traditional backdrop. Against this, the deep, warm tones of Millboard’s Shadow Line+ cladding and Enhanced Grain decking in Antique Oak create a striking yet harmonious contrast.
“The colour pairing was a huge part of the decision,” the owners explain. “The soft cream of the stone and the rich antique oak tones complement each other perfectly. Together they feel timeless, traditional but with a modern edge.”

Beyond Decking and Cladding
At Waterfalls, Millboard decking and cladding isn’t just used conventionally, it’s woven into the fabric of the home in creative and unexpected ways. Of course, the main applications are impressive: Shadow Line+ cladding adds refined architectural detail to the house exterior, while the Enhanced Grain decking forms a welcoming terrace and outdoor entertaining space.
But the owners have gone further still. They’ve used Millboard products to create bespoke outdoor furniture, tables, benches, and seating areas that tie seamlessly into the overall design. Even the front door benefits from the same material, creating a cohesive look throughout the property.
“Once we saw how versatile Millboard products were, we started using it in other ways,” they say. “It’s become part of the whole story of the house.”

An Outdoor Space for All Generations
The decking plays a central role in how the family now lives. Extending from the house into the garden, it forms a natural hub for entertaining and everyday life; a space where meals spill outside in summer, where children can explore, and where evenings end with sunsets and stories.
“It’s perfect for having everyone together,” the owners share. “We’ve got grandchildren running around safely, and we can all sit out in the evening, enjoying the view. It’s exactly the kind of space we dreamed of creating.”
Upstairs, a newly added terrace offers another layer to outdoor living, a peaceful spot for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. With Millboard decking underfoot and views stretching across the Somerset countryside, it’s become a favourite place to pause and unwind.

Designed for the Future
What makes Waterfalls truly special isn’t just how it looks today, but how it will continue to look tomorrow, and for many years to come. Choosing Millboard products was as much about the future as it was about the present.
“This renovation was about creating something lasting,” the owners reflect. “We didn’t want to spend our time maintaining things, we wanted to enjoy them. Millboard decking and cladding means we can do exactly that. It still gives us the warmth and natural look of timber, but without the demanding maintenance. That’s a huge win.”
And while the transformation has been gradual, a steady evolution since 2020, the result is a property that now feels completely their own. Every decision has been intentional, every detail carefully considered. The result is a home that’s beautiful, functional, and future proof.

A Story of Comfort and Connection
The story of Waterfalls is one of transformation, not just of a property, but of the way a family lives within it. Millboard’s Shadow Line+ cladding and Enhanced Grain decking have played a central role in that story, enhancing both form and function to create a home that truly reflects its owners’ vision.
From the seamless blend with Somerset’s distinctive Ham stone to the versatile ways the material has been used, from terraces to tabletops, every element speaks to a commitment to quality, longevity, and thoughtful design. And perhaps most importantly, it’s a home now filled with happy moments: grandchildren playing safely outdoors, friends gathered around a handcrafted table in the garden, evenings spent on a terrace watching the sun dip below the hills.
For the owners, that’s the real measure of success.
“Waterfalls isn’t just a house, it’s a place that brings people together, and Millboard has helped us make it exactly what we dreamed of.”
