Set above the Pacific Coastline in Del Mar, California, this stunning property is a striking blend of coastal sophistication and timeless design. Tasked with creating a home that could withstand the rigors of a seaside environment while delivering unmatched visual impact, the project brought together Heritage West, a builder known for precision craftsmanship, and Calla Cane, a designer celebrated for her ability to merge natural textures with contemporary lines.
The team selected Millboard’s Burnt Cedar Shadow Line+ siding to serve as the home’s exterior statement piece, combining durability with a bold, modern aesthetic.
The deep, charred tones of Burnt Cedar created a perfect balance between organic warmth and modern refinement. Paired with expansive glass and crisp architectural lines, the cladding anchors the home in its environment - luxurious, yet natural.
Challenge
With ocean air, humidity and intense sun exposure, durability was a top priority. Traditional timber siding or painted surfaces would have required regular maintenance and refinishing, which is not ideal for homeowners. The design also called for materials that could provide a dramatic, modern look to clean the architectural lines.
Solution
