Setting the Stage

When the design teams on HGTV’s Rock the Block season 5 episode 5, “Exterior Redemption,” set out to create bold balconies and accent pieces that would stand up to both the cameras and real life, material selection was crucial. They needed a siding and decking solution that could offer lasting durability while also providing a striking, modern look. Millboard decking and siding, with its wood-free composition and exceptional realism, became an obvious choice.

Why Millboard

In a competition where every detail is scrutinized, the ability of Millboard’s products to combine beauty with performance stood out. Unlike traditional wood or composite products, Millboard decking and siding is produced from a unique resin mineral composite (RMC) core, topped with a surface that is hand-molded from real timber. This gives it the warm, organic look of natural wood, without the risk of warping, fading, or splintering under the intense Southern sun where filming took place.

The Design Vision

The competing teams set out to create exteriors that balanced sleek, contemporary lines with inviting, livable charm. The goal was to enhance curb appeal with materials that looked sophisticated yet blended naturally into the surrounding landscape. Millboard’s Enhanced Grain decking brought a clean, modern profile while retaining the warmth and authentic look of real timber. Complementing this, Millboard’s Envello siding introduced refined architectural accents, delivering a cohesive finish that highlighted both the design vision and the durability required for the competition.

By integrating Millboard products, the design teams were able to create spaces that were visually stunning for television but also engineered for long-term, real-world, performance - something every homeowner could appreciate.

Standing Out on The Block

On a show where design innovation makes the difference between winning and losing, Millboard decking and siding became more than just a building material, it was a strategic design choice. Its authentic look helped deliver the wow factor on camera, while its resilience ensured the exteriors would maintain their beauty long after the film crews packed up.

The Result

Millboard-clad exteriors were not only a highlight of the season but also a showcase of how modern materials can meet the demands of both televised drama and everyday living. Today, those same properties - durability, low maintenance, and stunning aesthetics - are why Millboard products remain trusted by leading architects, builders, and homeowners across North America.
